Martin Wade III
Chief Executive Officer
Martin Wade joined Payless ShoeSource as Chief Executive Offcer (interim) and Chairman of the Board in August 2017. Wade brings 40 years of experience advising senior management and boards of directors during more than 200 acquisition, divestiture, and restructuring processes. He is a turnaround and transformational strategy expert, and following Payless’ successful 2017 restructuring Wade will lead the company’s return to proftable growth.
Wade is also Board Chairman and CFO for VITA Mobile Systems, Inc., and he is a Partner in Residence at Catalyst Acquisition Group. In addition, Wade serves on the board of Media News Group DBA Digital First Media, the second largest media company in the U.S. and
serving over 60 million monthly readers. Wade also serves on the Board of Alliance One International (NYSE: AOI) where he is a member of the Audit Committee and the Governance and Nominating Committee.
In prior roles, Wade has held managing director positions with frms such as Prudential Securities, Solomon Brothers, Price Waterhouse, and Lehman Brothers. Wade has served on 14 corporate boards, including Vertis Holdings and Reader’s Digest Association.
Wade earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from West Virginia University. From 1971 to 1975, Wade was a captain in the United States Air Force. Following his service, Wade earned a Master of Business Administration degree from University of Wyoming.
